Beloved beasts!
The webshop has just been updated with pre-orders for the prints many of you have asked for: the 18x24 animals and birds of New York and animals of LA prints on watercolor paper!
There are also 8.5x11 Thirsty Science prints available from a limited edition run of 50 on fine watercolor paper.
I’m changing up how commissions work a little bit: you can now commission either a Thirsty Science Original or a Cabinet of Curiosities Original.
Thirsty Science Originals land somewhere on the scale between cuter (snuggling birds) to kinkier (it’s called doggy style for a reason) depictions of animals in various angles of embrace.
I make paintings in my sketchbook that compulsively catalog elements of the natural world that I adore: a sweet little fern next to a baby duck next to a spring shad next to a mushroom, and so on. These “cabinet of curiosities” pieces are inspired by vintage science illustrations a la Haeckel’s Art Forms in Nature, which meticulously depict vegetable, animal and mineral arranged in series flat on the page. Mine are looser and weirder and I have a blast making them. A Cabinet of Curiosities Original is one of a VERY limited edition set of custom paintings, where you will send me five of your (or your loved one who the present is for’s) favorite components of nature: your favorite bird, shell, fungus, pollinator, weed, charismatic megafauna, whatever, and I will compose your very own Cabinet of Curiosities piece.
I’m offering only five of each of these custom options for now, so get them while the getting is good!
Happy earth-oriented shopping.
